HISTORY: The Moth played an important part in the development of light-aeroplane clubs in the United Kingdom and became famous for its record breaking flights all over the world. Ordered for the RAF in quantity, it is one of the classic training aircraft of all time and represents a major British success in the golden age of flying. In the early 1920s de Havilland identified a need for an aircraft to meet the needs of the growing number of clubs and private flyers. In 1926 the manufacturers re-engined the aircraft with the new de Havilland Gipsy engine and a legend was born. With an impressive power to weight ratio the Gipsy Moth became involved in some of the most memorable record breaking flights of the day. Although a sturdy machine the designers returned once more to the drawing board in 1928 to meet overseas demand for a strengthened version. The new version was produced with a welded steel tube fuselage. The RAF ordered 134 Moths. By 1939 most of these original aircraft had been retired but with the outbreak of war the RAF impressed at least 146 civilian owned Moths. They were used for a wide range of miscellaneous communication activities.

Uncle Willie,
Thought you might like to see the Fokker DVIII that was made from the plans I purchased from you last year. The plans were enlarged to 150% (105"W.S.). It's powered with a Fuji BT64A and is a great flyer.

(This is a perfect example of where Bob took a printed plan, and by cutting it up into 2 strips, was able to enlarge it. Your printer, if they have the skill to, can alter any file, enlarge it and print the 2 halves out.)

Swoose Goose

HISTORY: The Vultee XP-54 was designed as a competitor for a 1939 USAAC specification for a single-seat interceptor fighter. The engine was initially to have been the Pratt & Whitney X-1800, though this was later changed to the Lycoming XH-2470 24-cylinder engine, making it one of the only U.S. fighters to have been made with a 24 cylinder engine (How many spark plugs you want?). Other novelties included a pressurized cockpit, and a pilot seat which functioned as an elevator. This seat could be electrically lowered to the ground for cockpit entry (Going up!), or could be catapulted downward to clear the pilot of the propeller during an emergency (OUCH, that had to hurt on the tarmac!). This made the XP-54 the first American fighter to be fitted with an ejector seat. Engine problems and other delays during the testing phase meant that only two XP-54s were made, and the prospect of quantity production was eventually abandoned. The name "Swoose Goose" was more of an unofficial name for this unique aircraft.

Another plan I took in as a trade, I invested days of work just to get her looking this good!
Heinkel He162
NOTE!. The following email was received recently... The plans call for a RK049 which has been out of production for about 20 years now, in case you’re unable to get a hold on one of these KAMDAX sells a Norvel based fan unit that is the same size with much more thrust and you can get the entire unit including the engine for about $80. I am now building a lot of these old ½A ducted fan designs and these units work great.
